One of the most successful daytime tv programs in the UK has to be Come Dine With Me, the show where 4 people battle it out to host dinner and entertain the the other contestants to see who is the best cook and the best host. They allow cameras into their own homes and we see them preparing the meals and hosting their own dinner party in an attempt to impress their guests. They all get to vote on how each of them performed and the winner is announced at the end. All good fun!
One of the most memorable things about the show isn’t the fact that the dinner party’s often end in tears, with burned food and dodgy attempts to entertain, but the voiceover who narrates the show. His name is Dave Lamb and he definitely has an irreverent, tongue in cheek style as he sarcastically comments on how each contestant is performing! He’ll pull no punches if the food turns out to be less than perfect, if the chef doesn’t seem to know what they’re doing or if the attempts to entertain are cringeworthy!
In terms of his tone and voice style, Dave Lamb is very distinctive, he has an over the top, well spoken voice and is extremely enthusiastic. He could be described as being posh and he is extremely sarcastic, as he makes lots of jibes and asides throughout the program. Here’s my Dave Lamb impression.
