Need a Chris Tarrant impression for a commercial, promo, comedy script or game show-themed production? I’m Darren Altman, a professional voiceover artist and celebrity impressionist with more than 25 years’ experience.
Chris Tarrant’s unmistakable delivery became synonymous with Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? — conversational, distinctive and brilliant at building suspense. I perform the voice for professional productions where that recognisable British game show presenter style is the brief.
You can hear two real examples below: a recent piece for Heart Breakfast and a radio commercial for Jersey Electricity.
Heart Breakfast got in touch and asked me to perform my Chris Tarrant impression on the show. The premise was me pranking Jamie Theakston into thinking that I was Chris and getting him to answer a question that he got wrong on WWTBAM in 2006!
The piece played on Tarrant’s unmistakable Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? delivery as part of the promotion around Global’s £1 million giveaway.
It’s a great example of the impression being used in a genuine broadcast setting, with the timing, pauses and game show tension doing the work.
I also performed my Chris Tarrant impression for this Jersey Electricity radio commercial.
Rather than simply demonstrating the voice in isolation, this is the impression doing an actual job within an advertising script — giving the commercial an instantly recognisable game show feel while keeping the performance sharp and usable.
During lockdown, comedian Matt Lucas was producing lots of content based on his Baked Potato Song, that he performed on Shooting Stars with Vic and Bob back in the day. I decided to film a sketch based on that song! Enjoy.
The Chris Tarrant voice works particularly well when a script needs suspense, comedy, a dramatic reveal or that familiar British quiz show atmosphere.
For projects where a direct celebrity impression isn't appropriate, I can also create an original character voice with the pace, tension and authority of a classic British game show host without directly imitating Chris Tarrant.
I’ve been a professional voice actor for more than 25 years and reached the live semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent performing celebrity impressions. My impression work has been used across radio, television, commercials, branded content and live events.
You can hear plenty more voices on my celebrity impressionist page, while my commercial voiceover work shows the wider advertising experience behind the performance.
All voiceovers are recorded professionally from my broadcast-quality London studio and supplied ready for production.
Recordings are produced from my professional London voiceover studio using a Neumann U87 microphone. I can take live direction via Source-Connect, Cleanfeed, Zoom or Teams, record to picture or supplied timings, and deliver edited broadcast-quality WAV files.
You are welcome to connect to my studio to direct me during the recording process, to ensure that you get the exact style and delivery of your Chris Tarrant, to best suit your project.
I can also provide a short custom sample of your script before booking.
