Voice of God, Live Event Announcer

At a live event or award ceremony, it’s common to have an announcer welcoming the guests, announcing the speakers onto the stage and giving information about award winners as they receive their awards. This person is called the voice of God or live event announcer and they can either voice live at the event, or pre-record their announcements.

Need pre-recorded announcements? No problem!

If your event calls for announcements to be pre-recorded in advanced and played “as live,” then that’s no problem! Not only can I record all your announcements in advance, but you are more than welcome to connect to my studio and direct me during the recording process, so you can be sure that you have the exact tone and style that you require.

As a professional VoiceOver artist, I have a broadcast quality studio, with an industry standard Neumann U87 microphone and a bespoke designed studio, so you can be assured that you will receive high quality and fully edited files, ready to play out at your event.

Who I’ve worked with

As a professional voiceover artist, comedian and presenter, I have extensive experience in this field, having worked alongside celebrities such as Claudia Winkleman, Joel Dommett, Tess Daly, comedian Mark Watson, top impressionist Rory Bremner, DJ and presenter Pat Sharp and GB Olympic swimmer Mark Foster.

Voicing for ITV

ITV aired a prime-time Saturday night 2 part celebrity ice skating show, The Real Full Monte On Ice and I was contacted to be the announcer. We recorded 2 styles for them to choose from, the first was a big, booming, Brian Blessed style and the second was a more natural “voice of God” tone. They chose the more booming voice for their announcements and you can check it out in this video.

Making an impression!

Why not give your audience something unique? I recently voiced the Construction News Awards in London, working with comedian Mark Watson. As well as the traditional VOG announcements and reading out the nominees, I voiced each category in a different impression! 21 awards and 21 different celebrities! This was a lot of fun and I worked with Mark, improvising each voice, bantering with him and giving the audience a fun and unique experience.

At the events I attend, I work closely with the production team, lighting and sound crew and the Show Caller, who’s essentially the director, cueing the lights, music, slides, videos and of course the announcer.

Getting the right tone

Although the announcements need to be clear and authoritative, that does not necessarily mean bombastic. More and more, a natural style is favoured. The voice, unless it’s a style choice does not have to be forced. I’m very happy to work with clients to discuss their event and make sure they have a style and tone that suits the occasion.

This was a fun one! This was for The London Local Awards 2021 and produced by Global Radio. The brief was that they wanted a ballsy, fun and over the top style. No problem!

Satisfied Clients

Our VOG for the Awards Awards 2019 was the fantastically talented Darren Altman, a pleasure to work with who brought great energy and fun to the proceedings with his many impressions!

“We have been booking Darren for a couple of years now as voice of god for our awards ceremony. Darren is extremely professional and nothing is ever a problem – even last minute changes! A really lovely guy who we would book again and again!”

“We used Darren as Voice Of God for The Heathrow Airport Retailers Award Ceremony and were so impressed, we asked him back the following year! What we love about Darren is his flexibility in terms of the style of reads he can deliver. He’s always quick to respond to our demands, polite and great with clients. We have also used him to voice several of our videos. I can highly recommend Darren both as a voiceover artist and Voice Of God for your live event.”

“As a world class professional comedy stage hypnotist, I have had the privilege of working with multi-talented Darren Altman for well over 10 years, I must say, he is truly an amazing voice-over artist and truly a wealth of talent, courtesy and professionalism. His walk-on announcement is a staple of my show work and wows and builds excitement each and every time I bring one of my shows, from to NYC to Las Vegas, or anyplace in the world! For me, and for you, Darren is the go-to-guy for the very finest in voice-over talent!”
