Are you looking for a great Australian voiceover artist?

13/03/2019 By Darren Altman

Australian voiceover artist

Australian voiceover artist Are you on the hunt for a great Australian voiceover artist? As a professional, full time voiceover I specialise in characters, accents and celebrity impressions. Among my daily jobs, I get asked to deliver all sorts of accents from around the world for radio commercials, tv adverts and more!

The Australian Accent

TV and radio producers often ask me to voice adverts in an Aussie accent in a variety of styles. Whether it’s a “straight” read for a commercial, web video or corporate narration, or a character read for a cartoon or animation, I’m always happy to be directed and tailor my delivery, timbre and tone to suit the client. I can also be directed live, with clients connecting to my broadcast quality studio in order to listen in to the recording process and direct me, so they are sure to get the exact style they require.

Vocal Inflections

One quirk of an Australian accent is that you’ll often hear the inflection go up at the end of the sentence, as if the person is asking a question, even when they’re making a statement! It’s comment to hear this from Australians and typifies the accent.

Examples

Here’s a high energy and dynamic advert I voiced for Channel 4 Radio in Dubai for an Australian style bar and restaurant:

https://www.darrenaltman.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Australian-voice.mp3

He’s a little sketch, featuring an Aussie guy calling a radio phone-in show asking for advice. It was based on the classic Fosters beer commercials!

Aussie cartoon voices

As well as straight deliveries, you may be looking for more characterful voices for your animation or video. This is a fun example of an Aussie voice with bags of character. My Australian frog!

Thanks for taking the time to watch and listen to examples of my Australian accent and I can help in any way, just get in touch and I’ll be more than happy to help you get the right voice for your project.

Elvis Presley In Poundland

03/09/2018 By Darren Altman

Elvis Presley voice for the self-service check out tills in Poundland

Elvis at Poundland As a voiceover artist and impressionist, I get asked to a wide variety of voices. I’ve impersonated celebrities in radio adverts, on hold messages, web videos and animations, but one of the most fun jobs I’ve had was when I was recently asked to deliver an Elvis Presley voice at the self-service tills in Poundland.

Elvis at Poundland

When I was asked to voice Elvis for the Poundland tills, I was sent 95 prompts to voice! I can only imagine what the shoppers thought when they heard The King say “unexpected item in the bagging area, return to sender!” “Thank you for shopping at Poundland, baby!” or “Please swipe your card, hound dog!” I got to sing some of Elvis’ hits at the end of the messages and improvise, so recording the messages was great fun!

This is what you were faced with, at the sel-service tills!

And here’s a selection of the Elvis prompts I voiced.

https://www.darrenaltman.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Elvis.mp3

That Trademark Elvis voice

When I recorded these messages I had 70’s Elvis in mind and imagined his trademark curled lip, the spangly, bejewelled jumpsuits, sideburns and his southern drawl! These messages are running for the whole of September 2018, so listen out for The King when you’re doing your shopping at Poundland!

If you’re looking for an authentic Elvis impersonation, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

Are you Looking For A Roger Moore Impression?

29/08/2018 By Darren Altman

Roger Moore Impression

Roger Moore Impression Depending on what era you grew up watching, Roger Moore may well be your favourite James Bond. Roger spent 12 years in the role from his debut in Live And Let Die in 1973, to his final film, A View To A Kill in 1985.
The beloved British spy is quintessentially English, smooth and sophisticated and never seems to loose his cool, no matter what scrapes he gets himself into.

That trademark Roger Moore voice

In order to impersonate the late great Roger Moore, you have to lower your voice as he has a deep, rich, warm timbre. He’s sophisticated and oozes class, is well spoken, measured and calm. You rarely hear Roger Moore’s James Bond shout or get flustered and he speaks in a laconic and laid back manner. As a full time voiceover artist and celebrity impressionist, I have to say that impersonating the great Roger Moore is a lot of fun!

Here’s an example of my Roger Moore impression, in a promo for Signal 1 Radio.

https://www.darrenaltman.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Signal-1-Roger-Moore.mp3

Catchphrases

Roger played James Bond in a total of six films and had some memorable catchphrases along the way!

After the villain Kananga had been inflated and blown to pieces:

Solitaire: Where’s Kananga?

Bond: He always did have an inflated opinion of himself.

Scaramanga: You get as much pleasure out of killing as I do, so why don’t you admit it?

Bond: I admit killing you would be a pleasure.

Minister of Defence: Bond! What do you think you’re doing?

Bond: Keeping the British end up, sir.

How Can I help?

Are you looking for an authentic impression of Roger Moore, then I’ll be happy to help you with your project. Please do get in touch and let me know how I can help you. Thanks for visiting!

Fantastic Darth Vader Impression

02/07/2018 By Darren Altman

Darth Vader Impression

Darth Vader Impression Are you looking for a fantastic Darth Vader Impression? As a voiceover artist specialising in character voices and celebrity impressions, I’m often asked to voice adverts as Darth Vader! This is always fun as I get to go to the dark side and channel my inner James Earl Jones; the actor that voiced Darth Vader in the Star Wars movies.

The Classic Darth Vader Sound

In order to deliver an authentic Darth Vader Impression, you have to lower your voice to get that deep, rich tone he has. You’ll notice that Lord Vader sounds like he is speaking into some sort of vessel! For this, I get a large bowl and place it by my microphone to talk into. This really adds an authentic flavour that is difficult capture without using something to voice into.

Don’t forget his breathing! Darth Vader has a trademark way of breathing, as it is clearly audible and pronounced. It makes him who he is and adding that to he deep, rich speaking voice gives you his distinctive sound. Finally, I have some special processing that I add to my voice which ties the whole thing together and adds a subtle nuance to the whole thing, in order to sound truly authentic.

Fantastic Darth Vader Impression

Here’s an advert for Solo: A Star Wars Story that I voiced for Bay Radio in Malta as Darth Vader, using all the techniques as described above to capture his sound.

If you have a project that needs an impression of Star Wars legend Darth Vader, please do drop me a line, let me know what you need and I’ll be happy to help you.

Marty McFly and Doc Brown from Back To The Future Impressions

13/06/2018 By Darren Altman

Marty McFly and Doc Brown, Back To The Future Impressions

When Roy Martin, the founder and editor of Radio Today turned 40, his colleague broadcaster Stuart Clarkson contacted me to deliver Marty McFly and Doc Brown, Back To The Future impressions, in this fun parody video.

Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd

The two lead actors Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd both have very distinctive voices and after studying videos of the them on YouTube, I felt that I could get pretty close. Marty is fairly high pitched, with the occasional break in it when he gets excited and animated, kind of like an American teenage kid! Doc Emmett Brown has a rasp in his voice, which is ever-present. He always sounds like he’s stressed and on the edge!

The recording process

When I recorded the voices for this animation, I voiced each line several time, so the producer had options and could choose which ones they preferred. I voiced the whole script from top to bottom, switching characters. What you hear is the result of the producer picking their favourite lines and cutting all together as a conversation.

Back To The Future

If you have a project that needs an impression of Doc Brown and Marty McFly, please do get in touch, let me know what you need and I’ll be happy to help you.

Horse Racing Commentator Voice

22/03/2018 By Darren Altman

Horse racing commentator voice

Horse racing commentator voiceAs a professional voiceover artist and impressionist, one style of I get asked to deliver regularly is a sports commentator. I’ve played football commentators for a wide selection of adverts on TV and radio, including the 118 118 TV adverts, which were a lot of fun to voice! Another style that’s a lot of fun to deliver is a horse racing commentator voice.

Horse Racing Commentator Voice

When you think of a horse racing commentator, if you’re of a certain age then you’ll remember the commentaries of the late great Peter O’Sullevan, or Irishman Des Scahill. They started off at a slow and relaxed pace, setting the scene and describing the early stages of the race. When the race gathered steam and neared it’s climax, so did their voices! They grew more and more excited and animated until the horses reached the finishing line, when they were at their fever pitch; often yelling at the top of their voices, creating the most incredible excitement and tension until the race was over and the victorious horse had won.

My Horse Racing Commentator

Here’s an example of my horse acing commentator, in the style of Peter O’Sullevan.

And an in-store advert for ASDA supermarkets, advertising Cadburys chocolates.

If you require a horse racing commentator, then I’ll be happy to help. This is just one style I am able to deliver. If you require a more natural tone, then of course I’ll be happy to tailor my delivery to suit your needs. Please get in touch and let me know what you require.

I’m passionate about delivering the very best voiceover and working with clients to ensure that they receive the style of voice that best represents their brand. If you need me to demo for you, I’ll be more than happy to read for you and if you need characters, then get in touch and we can discuss what you have in mind.
